The trouble with Twitter is...

When it's down, the first thing you want to do is Twitter about it being down. I originally wanted to tell Duncan Davidson how much I love his site design. I'm sure it's been that way for awhile, but I normally only see his RSS feed.

I'm also thinking about picking up the second edition of the Dragon Book. I want to learn more about language design and compilers. I know the Dragon Book has it's shortcomings, but I love that the new edition covers JIT compiling and garbage collection, and I'm really just looking for a foundation, not a definitive reference. I can catch up on the latest and greatest via the ACM.

I guess it would have been hard to fit that into 140 characters anyway.

Update: After reading the Amazon customer reviews, I bought Programming Language Pragmatics instead.

Are you more interested in compiler implementation or language design?

Interpreters might be a better place to start if it is the latter that currently holds your interest.

Thanks for posting the link about Progamming Language Pragmatics - certainly sounds more exciting than whatever the second edition dragon book might have in it.

Yeah, PLP is very enjoyable so far. It's well written and lives up to its title.

the comment about twitter is so true :) I was in the opposite situation where my tweets were relentlessly being reposted and I was helpless to stop it... and all I wanted to do was send another message to say what was going on but didn't want to make it worse :)

I've so far enjoyed Concepts, Techniques, and Models of Computer Programming, you might check it out when you get chance to plow through ~800 pages :) I've only read the first few chapters, but they alone were worth the price of the book.
